Pittsfield First Responders accept a donation from the Bursting Bubbles Foundation
by Mackenzie Pierce
The foundation presented the Pittsfield Police department, Pike County Sheriff and EMS with sensory toys.
First responders will hand those toys out to people with autism during emergencies. The idea came about when the group asked how they could keep people with autism and first responders safe during emergencies. Bright lights and loud sirens can overwhelm a person with autism.
Bursting Bubbles executive director and Pittsfield resident Taylor Sweeting was diagnosed with autism when he was three.
And these sensory toys should be able to help not only bring down that stress level, but allow for theses individuals to calm themselves, center themselves, so they can be safer and so our first responders can be safer as well.-Taylor Sweeting
Taylor wants to make this idea spread to other communities. Tri-State first responders interested in the donated sensory toys are advised to contact the Bursting Bubbles organization.
